Ludlam Trail
The Ludlam Trail will connect schools, parks, residences, shopping, workplaces, and transit with a world-class trail that includes dedicated pathways for walking, running, and bicycling. This 5.6 mile corridor on a former railroad right-of-way will be transformed into a linear park and trail system to encourage active living and healthy lifestyles. It’s also an integral piece of a larger Miami Loop trail system consisting of The Underline, The Miami River Greenway and the Ludlam Trail.
Dover, Kohl & Partners guided the design process as part of a PD&E Study alongside a larger multidisciplinary team led by AECOM. The PD&E Study helped to determine the conceptual design for the trail, along with the associated social, economic, and environmental effects on surrounding communities. The process included multiple public input meetings to gather feedback and refine the conceptual designs.
The schematic designs for the trail include separate pathways for walking, running, and bicycling, generous landscaping with shade trees, a limited number of shelters with seating and other amenities, improved at-grade crossings with existing roadways, and four bridges over major east-west streets.
